MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Lafayette High School is to set the pace for excellence by creating a positive learning environment and developing responsible life-long learners.
SCHOOL INFORMATION
Lafayette High School was dedicated November 3, 1917. It is one of three public high schools in the St. Joseph School district. There are currently 3 administrators, 1 Activities/Athletic Director, 3 Counselors, 1 Social worker, 1 College and Career advisor, 61 faculty members and 30 support staff members.

IRISH PRIDE
Lafayette was recognized by U.S. News and Report as one of America's Best High Schools in 2010. Lafayette currently has 48 teachers with either a Masters, Specialist, or Doctoral Degree. At the current time, Lafayette has 17 alumni that have returned to work at Lafayette High School.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

GRADING SYSTEM & RECOGNITION GUIDELINES

1. All full-credit courses which carry 0.5 unit of credit for one semester will count in the GPA computation.
2. A student's semester GPA will be derived by dividing total points earned in classes by the total number of full-credit courses in which the student was enrolled during the semester.
3. Total points for the semester are obtained by adding the number of base points earned by the student during the semester.
4. The cumulative GPA after any semester will be obtained by adding the total number of points earned in each of the previous semesters, including the semester just completed, and dividing the total number of full credit semester courses through the completing of the most recent semester. The maximum possible unweighted GPA at any time is 4.00.
5. Class rank is based on a student's weighted GPA and assigned ordinarily for example, if two students are tied for the number 1 position; the next highest GPA is given the rank of number 3.
6. Students in grades 9-12 may receive weighted credit in a maximum of 4 classes
7. Top ten scholars, valedictorian, and salutatorian will not be named after the class of 2020.The Latin Honors Recognition (see page 11) will be implemented beginning with the class of 2018.
8. To be recognized as the valedictorian or salutatorian, a student must have attended the school the last four semesters. This student must have completed the maximum number of credits offered by their school each year and have a class rank and GPA based on a weighted scale. In case of a tie for valedictorian, the school will not name a salutatorian. Please note, top ten scholar recognition will use the valedictorian and salutatorian selection criteria.

CUM LAUDE HONORS SYSTEM (Grades 9-12)
The honors system below will be implemented in addition to current practices with the classes of 2018, 2019, 2020 with a valedictorian and salutatorian. Full implementation of this system will occur with the class of 2021. A valedictorian and salutatorian will not be named after the class of 2020.
